Comparison of matrix metalloproteinase-13 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 levels and alveolar bone density in chronic periodontitis before and after scaling and root planning

Periodontitis is typically associated with disorders characterized by compromised tooth-supporting tissue. Damage to periodontal tissue caused an imbalance between matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors. Decreased inhibitor elevated metalloproteinase levels result in collagen connective bone degradation. Several studies have shown that high of metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) low metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) are also found gingival crevicular fluid saliva patients periodontitis. The purpose this study was determine the comparison MMP-13 levels, TIMP-1 density chronic periodontitis before after scaling root planning (SRP). samples were selected from who came for treatment at Periodontics Installation Universitas Sumatera Utara. A total 16 (n = 16) a diagnosis showed salivary SRP higher than difference statistically significant (p < 0.05).
